The Roots - Complexity (ft. Jill Scott)
“Maybe our signal’s getting crossed/
For the case Love, you feel like you making a waste of/
Your precious time you need to get a taste of/
Some space to breathe, a moment as friends/
We should’ve felt ourselves slipping into it again/
Cuz it’s like off and on, on and off/
Passion, lost and found, found and lost/
Clashing, asking for nothing but understanding/
Your hearts made of glass, use care when handling”
I love how Jill’s voice just grazes the surface of the beat, sort of like a leaf floating on the top of the pond. Yeah, I’m rediscovering the Roots and oh, what a wonderful rediscovery it is. I’m heading back home to Palm Beach for Thanksgiving, subsequently, I’ll be on a mini vacation so happy early Turkey Day y’all. Break bread, relax, and listen to some good tunes.

MIXTAPE MONDAYYY
succinct, subtle - a conversational mixtape in two voices. Inspired by verbal and non verbal communication, or the art saying exactly what you feel with words or exactly what you feel without words.

DOWNTEMPO FRIDAYYY
Telepopmusik - Brighton Beach (Ft. Angela McCluskey)
Calm. Smooth. Ethereal vocals (who is this Angela McCluskey!?). Chillaxation.
JAZZ FRIDAYYY
Hiromi (Uehara) - Desert on the Moon
You ever watch rain droplets plopping into puddles on pavement? That’s what Desert on the Moon evokes in my brain whenever I hear it. Hiromi is an absolute genius with the piano and for those of you who are familiar with (and love) Chick Corea, it’s kinda obvious that he’s one of her heroes. Plus, she’s like the cutest thing ever.
loudersounds Favorite sounds (I think I’m gonna start doing this every Tuesday. Yay or nay?)
Naima - John Coltrane
I am convinced that Coltrane managed to encompass what it feels like to be so fully in love when composing Naima. Music just doesn’t get any more beautiful or powerful than this. (Bit biased, seeing as though this is my favorite song of all time. OF ALL TIME.)
Omni Trio - Renegade Snares (High Contrast Remix)
DRUM AND BASS FRIDAYYYYY
Ambient + DnB = bliss. DnB is so hit or miss for me. I find much of it way too frenetic for my usually chilled out, bass loving palate BUT I loooove Omni Trio.
Incubus - Dig
We all have something that digs at us/
At least we dig each other/
So when weakness turns my ego up/
I know you’ll count on the me from yesterday/
Lyrics like these are why I’ve been an Incubus fan for the past nine years of my life. They just keep getting better with time.
